Even in his home region of New England, Jay Gudda remains an enigma. His social media presence displays disinterest. His local collaborations do not exist. His content is often brash, but undoubtedly creative and honest. Aside from a keen ability to craft bodies of work, Jay is a seasoned live performer and has rocked numerous stages along side many (many) established artists; joining an east coast tour with R.A. The Rugged Man and performing as the sole opener for Dipset are amongst his brightest live moments. Jay is following his own rules, and perhaps that’s just what we need.
His latest single Wake Up was created from a a dark place then put on hold after his father passed away. “I was feeling a wide variety of emotions, primarily being angry with myself. I was feeling down about my artistry, and it felt like my thoughts were my enemies. After COVID-19 hit our country and injustice consumed our media, I began feeling something different for “Wake Up”. It has been one year since my father passed, and the song began taking new meanings throughout 2020″ says Jay. The track consists of a compelling back and fourth dialogue with himself demonstrating his extensive songwriting skills and is also accompanied by a stripped down visual directed by James McManus to emphasize the message.
