Boston native Slaine reconnects with fellow New Englander/NY inhabitant Statik Selektah for their latest collaboration A New State Of Grace. The duo first came together in 2011 for their debut State Of Grace mixtape. “Me and Slaine were over due for a full project that we that we could spend time on and get right. The first one was rushed and done in four days” says Statik. “This one we were just in different places in life” says Slaine. The final result is a more mature album via Brick Records that is true to form for the staunch Hip Hop heads. Slaine delivers his customary brutally honest lyrics with no shame on tracks Listen Up, The Tile Cut, Aint Been The Same, & World Don’t Stop. The effect is contagious nevertheless and influences the notable features from Millyz, Termanology, OC, Masta Ace, and Rasheed Chappell to come out of their comfort zones. But this collection of works isn’t all about self reflection, Coka Grillz, Cancel Culture, and Gusto showcase Slainey with La Coka Nostra brethren ILL BILL ,Paul Wall, KXNG Crooked, and OT The Real for some classic punchlines and hustler anthems. Statik brings his prestigious boom bap production and signature cuts that gives this collaborative effort a truer school feel than what you would normally expect on a slaine solo project since getting sober. “From ready to die to easy does it”, A New State Of Grace speaks clarity in a rap game full of misinformation.
