Hailing from Cambridge, MA, Skitzofreniks have been a staple of the Boston Hip Hop scene since the mid-90’s. CheckMark & Eddie Bones (RIP) epic live shows were revered as that of playground legends; while their grassroots method of promo, boom-bap beats, and clever rhymes earned them lifelong supporters.
After over a decade-long hiatus, which included the untimely death of his lifelong musical partner (Eddie Bones), Mark Girardin aka CheckMark has returned with Vita Matta Pt. 1 (“crazy life” in Italian), the first installment of the trilogy scored by DC the Midi Alien. The EP is a collection of life experiences from the MC’s wild and tumultuous upbringing.
CheckMark raps truth and honesty from a sincere grown man’s perspective. The first video Thanks for Life directed by SevOne is an open letter to the father that he never met while overcoming the challenges of parenthood himself. “The video was an attempt at recreating the moment when I realized that my father not being in my life was a bigger loss for him than it was for me. My daughter brought me so much pride, and I literally sat down and wrote a letter to my father, in rhyme form, thanking him for showing me what NOT to do as a parent” says CheckMark. Be on the lookout for #FathersAgainstDeadBeatDads hashtags out there.
“Vita Matta Pt. 1” is available now on all digital streaming platforms. The entire trilogy will culminate with a unique physical release upon completion. Check out the video and EP below.
