Grammy-nominated songwriter Cyrus DeShield has been persevering through adversity from the beginning. Originally from Liberia West Africa, but due to the civil war his family relocated to the Ivory Coast, Ghana, and then finally settling in Boston, MA. Drawing inspiration from Heavy D, Shabba Ranks, Boyz II Men, and 90’s era Ivorian artists, Cyrus began to sing and perform at age fifteen. Less than two years later, he signed with A&M/Interscope Records and began songwriting and professionally producing music. In 2011, Cyrus’s dreams would become a reality signing with Universal Music Publishing Group. Cyrus made his breakthrough in 2017, writing and co-producing half of Bell Biv DeVoe’s comeback album Three Stripes. Cyrus then collaborated with R&B legend Musiq Soulchild on his album Feel The Real. He would co-write and produce the eponymous lead single Start Over peaking at #11 on Billboard’s Urban Adult Contemporary Chart. The LP would debut at #1 on the Urban AC and earn a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album. In 2019, Cyrus made the transition from songwriter releasing numerous singles “The music I create represents all that life is: joy, pain, love, dance, and freedom of speech. It means with all my experiences I finally am aware of who I am, what I stand for and I’m ready to stand on my own.” says Cyrus.
His latest video In My Right Mind is directed by TJ Digital and produced by R1ck One. The song is an honest reflection of his journey to this point . “It’s just the perception of someone who’s standing in their truth and is comfortable with the road travelled. The good the bad and ready to evolve.” says Cyrus. The visual is also the title track on his debut LP that that fuses R&B, Hip Hop, Soul, and Afrobeat.
