Cambridge MA Ju$t Jill is a female rapper who stands out with her originality and creativity. She is currently one half of the rhyme duo B&B (Brains & Bars) as well as executive director of the Cambridge Hip Hop Collective responsible for the Bridgeside Cyphers in Central Square. Her musical upbringing was heavily influenced by her jazz musician father and big brother emcee Checkmark Of Skitzofreniks. From nostalgic 90’s Hip Hop to parody rap songs, her positive and uplifting style of music promotes self-love, empowerment, family, and friendship.
Her latest video Life For Us Feat. Checkmark is sort of a Hard Knock Life remake with a feel good, hometown, and family theme. The visuals are directed by Sev One in Cambridge’s Central Square highlighting all the nooks and crannies including the building they grew up in and the legendary Middle East Nightclub. “Life For Us was interesting to create because it was with my brother who’s extremely well-known and is well respected in the Hip Hop scene. There was definitely a lot of pressure on both sides so it did take a few years to complete. However, once we got in the studio it was a little emotional at first but we embraced that moment and learned a lot about each other as artists” says Jill. “We’ve endured and overcome so much as a family, but it’s made us who we are” says Checkmark. The song is featured on Jill’s latest Jillion Dollar Dreams LP which is full of positive tracks about family, friends, love, and having fun.
